As you stroll through its medieval streets, you will discover the buildings that tell the story of Avignon: the ramparts built in the 14th century, surrounding the historic center and the two World Heritage sites of UNESCO - the inevitable Palace of the Popes, the largest Gothic palace in the world, home of the Popes from 1309 to 1423 and the Saint-Bénezet bridge, better known by the name of "Pont d´Avignon" ... Opposite from the Palais des Papes, the Hôtel des Monnaies building reveals baroque architecture, inherited from 17th century while the Avignon Opera, Place de l'Horloge, whose first construction dates from 1824, reveals a facade of Greco-Roman style with columns, fully renovated since 2018.

First there are the many museums, which we visit all year round and whose permanent collections are as much admired as the exhibitions: le Musée du petit palais brings together nearly 390 paintings and 600 sculptures, medieval times at the beginning of the Renaissance, le Musée Calvet, fine arts and archeology or le Palais du Roure which tells the story of the Region…

And each year, the streets of Avignon and the city's must-see sites become an open-air theater and host the largest theater and live performance festival in the world:Festival d'Avignon brings together for a month actors, directors and the public who come to admire the performances, with unique decorations, the main courtyard of the Palais des Papes, the cloisters of the Célestins and the Carmelites, the Opera Grand Avignon and the Boulbon quarry.

In terms of gastronomy, there is something to delight the taste buds! Olive oil, tomatoes, strawberries, cheeses and sweet treats, not to mention, to accompany them, the wines of the Popes of Avignon and the famous vineyards of the nearby Côtes du Rhône. Stroll on the markets in the city and in the surrounding villages to bring back these dishes which make up dishes of Provencal and Mediterranean inspiration.
